During the meeting, the possible extension of Eni’s activities in Congo, aiming at the enhancement of the Country’s energy reserves and the monetisation of the offshore associated gas through power generation.
The visit confirms the key role that Africa plays within Eni’s strategy both in the oil and gas sector, as well as in biofuels and non-conventional oils.

Brazzaville, 14 August 2008 – Eni CEO Paolo Scaroni met today in Brazzaville with President of the Republic of Congo Denis Sassou-Nguesso, Minister of Hydrocarbons Jean Baptiste Tati Loutard and Chairman of the Congolese national oil company SNPC Denis Gokana.
During the meeting, the possible extension of Eni’s activities in Congo, aiming at the enhancement of the Country’s energy reserves and the monetisation of the offshore associated gas through power generation, was discussed. Further opportunities in onshore exploration activities were also discussed.
The meeting was characterised by positive and constructive co-operation at the end of a three-day visit of Eni’s senior management to Africa, which has included meetings with the state authorities of Gabon, Angola and Congo.
The visit confirms the key role that Africa plays within Eni’s strategy both in the oil and gas sector, as well as in biofuels and non-conventional oils.
In its 2008-2011 strategic plan, Eni announced plans to invest $3 billion in the Republic of Congo to reach an equity production of approximately 140,000 boe, and in May 2008 launched a new model of co-operation with the Republic of Congo. This model is focused on a non-conventional oil exploration and production agreement, on a memorandum of understanding on biofuels production and on the realization of the gas fuelled power generation centre near the Djeno terminal. The industrial plan also includes significant social and health initiatives developed and carried out by the Eni Foundation.
