PETROBRAS, Downstream Investments in Maranhão

Rio de Janeiro, June 16 2008 – PETRÓLEO BRASILEIRO S/A - PETROBRAS, [Bovespa: PETR3/PETR4, NYSE: PBR/PBRA, Latibex: XPBR/XPBRA, BCBA: APBR/APBRA], a Brazilian international energy company, announces that, during a meeting with representatives of the State of Maranhão Government, manifested its intention to study, together with the State, the possibility of installing a Premium refinery with capacity for 600,000 bpd. The refinery’s first operation phase is scheduled to start in 2013.
Petrobras and the Government of the State of Maranhão will study the terms of a Memorandum of Understandings to be signed in no more than 60 days to establish the initial premises for the Parts’ performance in project implementation.
