ATLANTA, GA. - April 22, 2008 : – The use of GE Energy’s gasification technology continues to expand across China’s coal-to-chemicals production industry.
Shandong Lihuayi Duowei Chemical Co., Ltd. of Dongying City, Shandong Province, is the latest company in China to sign a gasification technology licensing agreement with GE Energy.
Since the mid-1970s, 33 licensing agreements for GE’s gasification technology have been signed in the country. More than 90% of the gasification equipment for these projects is fabricated locally in China.
The Lihuayi project plans to use GE’s proprietary coal gasification technology to convert local coal into more than 890,000 normal cubic meters (NCM) per day of syngas, which then would be used for chemical production at the site.
“The coal-to-chemicals industry is booming in China, a country with vast supplies of coal that can replace oil and natural gas as raw materials for chemical production,” said John Lavelle, general manager of gasification for GE Energy. “Gasification technology enables our customers to use local coal, a relatively inexpensive feed stock, for chemical production, resulting in significant economic benefits and we are expanding our local teams from commercial and projects to technology and sourcing to better serve our customer in China.”
GE’s gasification technology helps customers in China convert coal and other low value feedstocks into higher value products.
In addition to the technology license, the scope of GE’s contract with Shandong Lihuayi Duowei Chemical Co. includes preparation of a process design package, technical service and the supply of a quench ring and feed injector. The plant is scheduled to begin commercial operation in late 2010.
