London, United Kingdom (18 April 2008) - AMEC, the international engineering and project management company, has achieved a platinum ranking in the ‘workplace’ category of the Business in the Community (BiTC) Corporate Responsibility index.

The company also achieved a gold ranking in the index’s ‘environment’ category, which helped it achieve a silver ranking in the overall BiTC Corporate Responsibility index, recording a score of 88.5 per cent.

The BiTC Corporate Responsibility Index provides a benchmark for companies to evaluate their management practices in corporate responsibility, comprising community, environment, marketplace and workplace, and their performance across a range of other environmental and social impact areas.

“Achieving such a good result demonstrates how important corporate social responsibility is to AMEC,” said Linzie Forrester, AMEC’s Sustainability Programme Manager. “It’s also pleasing in that it gives us a hat-trick of achievements following our recent success in the global Corporate Sustainability Assessment conducted by SAM (Sustainable Asset Management) and the Dow Jones Sustainability Index.”

BitC is a unique movement of over 800 member companies, with a further 3,000 companies engaged through BitC-inspired programmes and campaigns which operate through a local network of more than 100 business-led partnerships. They support and challenge companies to integrate responsible business through their operations in order to have a positive impact on society.
