Local Nonprofit Agencies Seek 75 Talented College Interns as Part of ExxonMobil Community Summer Jobs Program

Selected Agencies Offer Paid Summer Internship, Exposure to Nonprofit Sector to Undergraduates with a Heart for Service
IRVING, Texas–(BUSINESS WIRE)–The ExxonMobil Foundation and the Volunteer Center of North Texas have announced which 75 Dallas-area nonprofits will receive grants for summer interns as part of the ExxonMobil Community Summer Jobs Program (CSJP). The selected agencies are now accepting applications from college undergraduate students interested in a unique summer internship in the nonprofit sector.
In its 18th year locally and 37th year nationwide, the summer internship program offers undergraduates the opportunity to earn a salary while receiving hands-on work experience, serving the community and benefiting from professional development activities. In turn, the agencies mentor aspiring young professionals and receive needed assistance during the busy summer months.
“The ExxonMobil Community Summer Jobs Program has grown into such a successful program because of the shared benefits to participating students, agencies and the community as a whole,” said Gerald W. McElvy, president, ExxonMobil Foundation. “A paid, educational internship is very attractive to undergraduates, and selected agencies benefit from hosting some of the best and brightest college students from across the country. In the end, the program is helping to develop the next generation of nonprofit professionals, volunteers and board members who will continue to give back to their communities after graduation.”
ExxonMobil Foundation will contribute more than $237,000 to this year’s program to provide for interns’ salaries and the Volunteer Center’s administrative expenses.
The Volunteer Center trains agencies on the recruiting, interviewing and selection process, and assists in organizing and managing the summer internships. Participating agencies will select interns who must be full-time college students to apply. In addition to regular job responsibilities, interns engage in professional development seminars and other activities designed to provide insight into the nonprofit sector, the community’s needs and volunteerism. Interns will also work together on a large-scale service project which benefits the surrounding community.

Now in its 18th year in Dallas and 37th year nationwide, ExxonMobil has provided more than $8.4 million to support almost 4,000 community summer job internships in 10 states including Alabama, Alaska, California, Kansas, Louisiana, Montana, Oklahoma, Texas, Virginia and Wyoming, as well as in Washington, D.C. and internationally in Angola, Africa. In Dallas, ExxonMobil has provided more than $2.7 million to ultimately place approximately 1,325 college students in summer internships.
