HOUSTON–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Energy™ Magazine announced today that Canada has been named “Country of the Year” for 2008. The honor will begin with a VIP breakfast on Monday, May 5, 2008 at the Houstonian Hotel in Houston, Texas, USA. Following the breakfast the guests are invited to the Reliant Center for the opening of the Canada pavilion at the Offshore Technology Conference. The 67-voice children’s chorus from Houston’s Parker Elementary, a Grammy® Signature School, will entertain guests.

A number of Canadian Ministers, Premiers and Energy VIPs have been invited to the May 5th event. They will be joined by several national and local energy executives and media celebrating Canada’s place as the 2008 “Country of the Year.”

Chevron Canada President Mark Nelson said, “Chevron Canada is pleased to be a major sponsor in honoring Canada as ‘Country of the Year.’ Canada is a worthy selection for this recognition given its large energy resource base, organizational and research capability and ready access to markets.”

Mat Castaneda, GE Oil & Gas, General Manager, North America Sales, said, “GE Oil & Gas is proud to join our industry colleagues in honoring Canada as the 2008 Energy Magazine Country of the Year. GE Oil & Gas believes Canada, with its vast natural and human resources will continue to be an important and growing energy partner to the United States for decades to come. We look forward to working together to find innovative solutions that will help to secure the energy future for both our countries.”

Enbridge, Inc. President Steve Letwin said, “Enbridge is pleased to sponsor Canada as ‘Country of the Year.’ Our assets in the Alberta oil sands position us to become the leading North American energy delivery company. Canada is an excellent selection for the honor and with good reason for its easy access to US markets which makes it the largest energy supplier to the United States.”

The “Country of the Year” was established to honor countries that provide much-needed energy, trade and job opportunities. Nominated countries must be friendly to the United States and its allies; the country must provide trusted energy oil & gas reserves for the future of sustainable energy development.

In addition the Canadian Allied Military Forces work with the US and abroad to protect our mutual interests. The ecology of the country is safe, US visitors are safe and secure, and Canada maintains active US Trade Consulates. Canada is the US’ largest foreign supplier of energy, including oil, gas, uranium, and electric power.
